JAKARTA, July 22, 2024 – The Sharia Business Unit (UUS) of PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (bankjatim) continues to strengthen its commitment to improving hajj savings and payment services, while also actively encouraging the younger generation to perform the pilgrimage. This commitment follows the signing of a renewed cooperation agreement with the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), officially designating UUS bankjatim as a Hajj Payment Receiving Bank (BPS-BPIH) for the 2024–2027 period.
The signing ceremony, held at The Tribrata Dharmawangsa Jakarta, was attended by bankjatim Director of Operations Arif Suhirman, Head of BPKH Executive Board Fadlul Imansyah, Chairman of Asbisindo Hery Gunardi, and Chair of Sharia Banking Division of Asbanda Kukuh Rahardjo on Monday (July 22).
Fadlul Imansyah explained that BPKH signed cooperation agreements with 30 banks across Indonesia, consisting of 11 Islamic commercial banks and 19 Islamic business units appointed as BPS-BPIH. These appointed banks are responsible for accepting initial and final payments from prospective pilgrims, as well as managing hajj savings accounts for the purpose of BPIH payments, whether regular or special.
“All BPS-BPIH operations must adhere to sharia principles to ensure that all transactions and fund management comply with Islamic law,” he emphasized.
According to Fadlul, the agreement is a strategic step toward improving professionalism, accountability, and transparency in managing Hajj Pilgrim Savings Accounts (RTJH) and the overall financial management of hajj funds. “We hope this collaboration provides the best service for pilgrims and ensures trustworthy, sharia-compliant fund management. We believe all BPS-BPIH will act as the front line in safeguarding, collecting, and optimizing hajj funds,” he said.
The agreement refers to several regulations, including Law No. 34/2014 on Hajj Financial Management, Law No. 21/2008 on Islamic Banking, and other relevant regulations. The 30 appointed BPS-BPIH banks have met the criteria and requirements set by BPKH. The cooperation is valid for three years and may be extended based on performance and compliance evaluations by BPKH.
Arif Suhirman expressed that the appointment of UUS bankjatim as a BPS-BPIH is a great honor and responsibility that the company will carry out with commitment and integrity. He emphasized that this is also a valuable opportunity for bankjatim to make a greater contribution to supporting the pilgrimage journey for Indonesian citizens.
"Through this collaboration, we hope to add value for prospective pilgrims and support the success of the hajj operation each year. bankjatim is fully prepared to support BPKH in realizing safe, transparent, and professional hajj fund management,” Arif explained.
Currently, UUS bankjatim is also aggressively promoting the youth hajj movement, targeting millennials. This aligns with BPKH’s hope that young people begin to understand and plan financially for hajj early on. Since the hajj requires strong physical condition, the youth hajj movement is intended to reduce the number of elderly pilgrims in the future.
“Through this movement, the public can establish mature financial planning. Anyone can dream, including the dream to perform hajj at a young age. So, don’t be afraid—Bank Jatim will always support you,” Arif affirmed.
To assist millennials in preparing for their pilgrimage, UUS Bank Jatim offers the Tabungan Haji iB Amanah product. This savings account, in Indonesian Rupiah and managed based on sharia principles, is designed to help young people secure a hajj quota through either flexible or monthly deposits. The product uses a Mudharabah Mutlaqah contract. One of its key advantages is the ease of obtaining a hajj registration number, as UUS Bank Jatim is connected online with Siskohat (Integrated Hajj Computerized Information System).
