MEDAN, September 11, 2024. The East Java Provincial Government once again held a Trade and Investment Mission, this time in Medan, North Sumatra. PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (bankjatim) participated in supporting the East Java Provincial Government’s program. Held at the Grand Mercure Maha Cipta Medan Angkasa Hotel on Wednesday (11/9), the Trade and Investment Mission was attended by the Assistant for Governance and People’s Welfare of the East Java Regional Secretary Benny Sampirwanto, the Assistant for Governance and People’s Welfare of the North Sumatra Regional Secretary, bankjatim's Director of Operations Arif Suhirman, as well as heads of regional agencies from East Java and North Sumatra.
Bankjatim’s support in this trade mission included involving its assisted MSMEs to help expand their market reach. Arif explained that MSME growth in East Java has been rapidly increasing with great potential. Currently, there are over 9 million MSMEs in East Java, making them the backbone of the province’s economy.
Seeing this, bankjatim consistently takes strategic steps to ensure MSME growth continues sustainably. “We are continuously collaborating with various parties to encourage MSMEs to thrive in today’s increasingly competitive market, including this synergy with the East Java Provincial Government through the Trade Mission,” he explained.
Arif emphasized that bankjatim is committed to helping MSMEs overcome challenges such as market access, financing, and mentoring. “We strongly support MSMEs in developing their businesses. One of our missions in this event is to help our assisted MSMEs expand their market networks and support the government in strengthening trade relations between East Java and North Sumatra provinces,” he said.
Three of bankjatim’s assisted MSMEs participated in the event: Pecel 99 Madiun with traditional food products, Bluder Moju with bakery products, and Diamonte with crafts. These top products are expected to meet the needs and interests of the Medan community. “As a regionally-owned bank, we will continue to support MSMEs in their growth so they can improve in quality and compete in national and international markets,” he added.
In addition, bankjatim also presented a Batik Textile Art Performance from one of its assisted MSMEs, Berkah Mojo from Jombang. Three batik motifs were showcased: Junjung Drajat, Sekar Jagat, and Kebun Ratu. “This batik performance is one of bankjatim’s ways to preserve and revive public appreciation for ancestral heritage, especially among the younger generation. Hopefully, interest in batik will continue to grow, and Indonesian batik will gain more global recognition,” Arif said.
Meanwhile, Benny Sampirwanto in his speech explained that the Trade Mission is an initiative by the East Java Provincial Government to connect entrepreneurs from East Java with those from partner provinces in order to promote industrial, trade, fishery, agribusiness products, and investment opportunities. This is aimed at supporting import substitution (for raw materials) and meeting other domestic needs, which is expected to boost national trade value.
“We hope this trade mission will be utilized optimally to foster synergy, particularly in industrial and trade sector collaborations, and realize market sovereignty within the country. Indonesians should love locally made products to help boost domestic trade,” he said.
This East Java–North Sumatra Trade Mission marked the 36th mission since 2019 and the second in 2024. It is expected to further strengthen cooperation between the provinces, bring significant economic benefits, and enhance inter-regional synergy.
Astonishingly, the Trade Mission between East Java and North Sumatra concluded with total committed transactions valued at IDR 453 billion. Top traded commodities included blue swimming crab, tuna loin, palm sugar, coconut shell charcoal, candlenuts, cigarettes, fish and shrimp feed, firefighting equipment, horticultural crop seeds, and cinnamon.
