SURABAYA, July 3, 2024 – To boost the local economy, the East Java Provincial Government in collaboration with PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (bankjatim) has once again distributed direct cash assistance (BLT). This time, the BLT was given to 1,000 cigarette factory workers from tobacco excise revenue sharing funds (DBHCHT). The assistance was symbolically handed over at PT HM Sampoerna Rungkut 2, on Wednesday (July 3) by the Acting Governor of East Java, Adhy Karyono, together with bankjatim’s President Director, Busrul Iman.

Adhy explained that a total of 13,469 workers and cigarette factory employees in East Java would receive BLT from DBHCT. However, the BLT distributed at Sampoerna this time was for 1,000 workers. Each worker received BLT DBHCT amounting to IDR 1,031,145 in the form of a Tabungan Siklus account from bankjatim. Adhy acknowledged that the number of workers in cigarette factories has increased significantly this year. "Last year, there were only about 9,000, but this year it has reached 13,000. This shows there is an increase in employment in the cigarette factory sector," he explained.

According to Minister of Finance Regulation No. 6 of 2024 and East Java Governor Regulation No. 84 of 2023, the province received 3% of total national tobacco revenue, amounting to IDR 2.77 trillion. "From this 3%, the revenue is distributed evenly. However, it is the duty of the East Java Provincial Government, across regions such as Surabaya, to distribute DBHCHT in the local area. So, everyone will benefit," said Adhy.

He expressed hope that the BLT DBHCT would ease the burden of workers in East Java and help meet their basic living needs. "This is not only fulfilling the workers' rights from tobacco earnings, but also part of social protection. We hope that this addition will ensure the basic needs of the cigarette workers and employees are met properly," he said.

Meanwhile, Busrul also conveyed that in this event, bankjatim acted as the distributing bank for the assistance. "This is also a concrete demonstration of our care for the surrounding community. We are not only focused on business; bankjatim will certainly continue to build good values and contributions for the entire society. Activities like this are a form of mutual cooperation to advance the economy," he said.

He reiterated the commitment to continue collaborating with the East Java Provincial Government to improve the welfare of the people and boost East Java's economy. "We hope that bankjatim can continue to provide positive contributions to the nation," Busrul emphasized.
