SURABAYA, September 15, 2024. PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (bankjatim) successfully held the JConnect Run 2024. A total of 3,200 runners participated in the major event, with categories including 5K, 10K, and 21K. This competition was also part of the series of celebrations for bankjatim’s 63rd anniversary. The run, which started and finished at the Gedung Negara Grahadi, was officially opened by bankjatim's President Director Busrul Iman, the bank’s board of directors, and all senior executive vice presidents (SEVP) of bankjatim. Also present at the event were the Expert Staff for Social Affairs and Human Resources of the East Java Provincial Government, Budi Raharjo, and the Deputy Director of Strategic Management Services and Regional Coordination of OJK East Java, Firdaus AR. To make the event even more festive, Giselle Anastasia joined as a Key Opinion Leader (KOL).
Busrul explained that the organization of the bankjatim JConnect Run 2024, the first of its kind, is a form of the company’s commitment to encouraging the people of East Java and Indonesia to campaign for a healthy lifestyle through running. Running is one of the easiest sports to do by people of all ages and backgrounds.
“Alhamdulillah, we are very grateful because this event has received a positive response from the public, both from general participants and especially from running enthusiasts. This is proven by the fact that a total of 3,200 participants joined the JConnect Run 2024. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the participation and support from all parties,” he explained.
The event, which began at 05:00 WIB and ended at 10:00 WIB, went smoothly and was lively. Seeing the extraordinary enthusiasm of all the participants, Busrul added, it is possible that in the future, bankjatim will further enhance its sports events involving a variety of elements.
According to Busrul, what distinguishes the bankjatim JConnect Run 2024 from other running events is the route. Through this inaugural event, bankjatim wanted to invite all runners to pass through routes that reflect cultural fusion, historical trails, and routes showcasing the beauty of the tabebuya flowers that Surabaya is known for. The prizes were equally impressive, with a total prize pool of IDR 150 million prepared for all winners.
“Through this event, which was participated in by thousands of runners from various regions in Indonesia, Surabaya's tourism can be promoted, and it can also create economic activity within the city,” Busrul emphasized.
Another objective of the bankjatim JConnect Run 2024 was to further introduce the JConnect product to the public. As the bank of the people of East Java, bankjatim aims to expand the market for its JConnect app. Therefore, this event is seen as an opportunity to enhance user experience and gauge exposure, or how well the public recognizes and uses the bank’s services.
“After the runners cross the finish line, we have also prepared a Culinary Festival at Alun-Alun Surabaya featuring UMKM (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) supported by bankjatim from all over East Java, where all transactions are cashless, using QRIS from bankjatim. It’s practical—just open JConnect and scan the QR code,” Busrul said.
In addition to the competitive run and culinary festival, after the runners reached the finish line, they were treated to various entertainment and exciting door prizes. Busrul hopes that this event will inspire the public to embrace healthy lifestyles, support the growth of the local economy and tourism in East Java, and enhance the mobility of domestic tourists.
“We get health benefits, and we also stimulate economic activity. We really hope that the bankjatim JConnect Run can serve as a catalyst for more positive activities in Surabaya and East Java, and we look forward to seeing more community-driven initiatives. Congratulations to all the winners of the JConnect Run 2024. We hope that sports in Indonesia continue to thrive because a healthy body creates a strong spirit,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, before the JConnect Run race day, bankjatim also held a Shake-Out Run Easy Pace 5km on Saturday (14/9) at Coffee Toffee Surabaya. In addition to running, the event also featured a talkshow with Dr. Liem Audi Natalino, SpJp (K), FIHA, FAPSC from Mayapada Hospital. The theme of the talkshow was "Comfortable Running, Safe Heart."
